Here’s a great, fairly common, shrub used quite frequently in large landscaping areas. But this is one common South Florida flora that I actually love! You’ll soon see why.
It’s called the Copper Plant and it affords quite a bit of privacy. I keep this one bushy although it does get cut back frequently to prevent it from growing over our deck area. The side you’re seeing is the north side. But check out the view from the south — where it gets full sun.
Hence it’s name. Copper Plant. Too bad our neighbors get to enjoy the best side! Here’s a close-up shot in full, glorious copper color.
You may notice the “caterpillars” growing on it. These things come and go and are not always present. (They’re not really caterpillars. Anyone have a better name for them? Caterpillars just seems very descriptive.)
They’re messy too, as they fall off easily and litter the deck. But that’s okay. It’s why I have a broom! One of two reasons, I guess some might say.
